One day I log on and I've got 25,000+ pageviews. I was like, "whut?!" and decided to draw something I've been thinking of for some time. Here we have Caius Ballad of Final Fantasy XIII-2.
I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. I hand-drew the lineart, photographed it, turned the levels to extreme white and extreme black, cut out the lineart, deleted the white background, and made transparent lineart out of it (a couple tutorials said this was a good way to do it). I then colored underneath it and voila! Not bad at all.
I love the muscle shading. Actually, I love how everything turned out (except his stupid headband - pretend the ends of it are hanging down his back, okay, folks?). I gave him a smirk because that's what Caius is kind of famous for and I love his smirks.
How can I improve the musculature? The shading? The lineart? (I had to trim it with Photshop's lasso tool) The proportions? I absolutely love drawing the human body, it's such a fascinating subject, and, well, practice (and critique) makes perfect.
Please keep it in your pants when you comment, folks.
Caius: "Surrender now to your heart's desire." Caius fangirls: OKAY!
There needs to be a "traditional/digital mix" category. This DOES NOT fit in either just traditional or just digital. It's both. Please, dA, make a special category for hand-drawn, digitally-colored artwork!
Nice work, the proportions are great! Considering that his hair is purple, you made it look fairly realistic and the muscles look great.
Something I would suggest is that you use the shadows more than dark lines to define the muscles. So instead of using just a bunch of black lines, try just manipulating the shadows!
Also, I think darkening the shading, just overall, would make the skin look a bit more lifelike. Especially in places like his armpit and in his abs, I'd darken the contrast a touch. I'd personally widen his waist just a touch as well, but I have no clue about this man's physique. So i'm going to let you decide if that's necessary.
But overall, this is lovely! His arms are done in a really realistic way, nice work. Arms can be hard. (At least for me.)
Thanks for the feedback! I agree about the shading and I think I'll redo it. As for his waist, that's how he is (he's skinny). Arms are kind of easy for me, but I'm glad you find them a high point. Thanks again.
What?
What?
STAHP!

Yeah, then that means I'm probably overthinking it.
